I am a researcher in the field of engineering education based in Dortmund (Germany), where I work as a researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL), faculty of mechanical engineering, TU Dortmund University.
The focus of my reserach work is on the laboratory education as an essential element in teaching science and engineering, e.g. in manufacturing technology.
Laboratory work, as carried out by engineering students, should provide the environment to apply theoretical fundamentals within an engineering context in order to support the development of procedural skills up to conceptual understanding. Therefore, I am particularly interested in applying modern didactical principals, like problem-based or research-orientated learning in order to continually foster the shift from teaching to learning.
Furthermore, I am interested in media and technological extensions of hands-on laboratories like tele-operated experiments and their holistically integration in learning environments. Exploring the possibilities of such new technologies to unveil the potentials of one of the most important elements in engineering education – the laboratory.
